Reasonably Practicable

What does “reasonably practicable” mean?

It is balancing the level of risk against the measures needed to control the real risk in terms of money, time or trouble. However, you do not need to take action if it would be grossly disproportionate to the level of risk.

For further guidance on risk assessments and a list of FAQ’s please refer to the HSE website risk management page on http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/faq.htm#q7

What is the difference between ALARP and SFAIRP?

“ALARP” is short for “as low as reasonably practicable”. “SFAIRP” is short for “so far as is reasonably practicable”. The HSE consider the two terms to mean essentially the same thing with the concept of “reasonably practicable” being at their core. ALARP describes the level to which the HSE expect to see workplace risks controlled.

Would you recognise the signs of work-related stress? Colleagues who start to act differently at work, by showing increased nervousness, repeated lateness, or a lack of motivation, could be experiencing work-related stress: https://workright.campaign.gov.uk/campaigns/workingminds?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=working-minds&utm_term=all-sectors&utm_content=working-minds-homepage #WorkingMinds
